Sunday saw the streets of Reading come alive with the sound of pounding trainers as 7,500 runners took on the challenge of the Reading Half Marathon. Among them was our very own Seb Colcutt, (Progressive Legal Solutions Operations Manager) who clocked in a commendable time of 2 hours and 15 minutes—all in the name of a good cause.
Running in support of BIBS (Babies in Buscot Support), a charity close to his heart, Seb laced up with purpose and a touch of style, proving that not all heroes wear capes—some wear moisture-wicking vests.
Seb’s journey to the finish line wasn’t just a Sunday jog. After months of training that featured early mornings, aching calves, and a slightly obsessive relationship with protein (doughnuts) bars, Seb hit his stride in true amateur-athlete fashion.
“I’m not saying I’m fast,” Seb joked before the race, “but I like to think of myself as ‘deliberately paced’.” Whether it was interval training in the rain or arguing with his running app about pace accuracy, Seb stuck to his plan with admirable determination (and the occasional post-run pastry).
Crossing the finish line after 13.1 miles, he joined thousands of fellow runners in transforming the town centre into a sea of medals, smiles and mild limping.
The effort wasn’t just personal—it was powerful. By running for BIBS, which supports sick and premature babies cared for in the Buscot Ward at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Seb turned every step into a show of support for families facing their toughest days.
“Knowing I was running for such an important cause kept me going—especially around mile 10 when my legs started asking serious questions,” Seb added, post-race.
While his trainers may be taking a well-earned rest this week, Seb’s efforts have left a lasting mark. Donations are still coming in, and spirits remain high.
Next stop? “A bath, a nap, and maybe… the London Marathon?” he teased, only half-joking.
